Image of the Day www.sportsecyclopedia.com/X-Men The Big East took center stage Wednesday Night as #5 Xavier hosted #1 Villanova in a battle for the top spot in one of the NCAA's strongest conferences. Both teams entered the game with records of 24-3 as Villanova has been atop the Top 25 rankings for three weeks. Xavier meanwhile came in looking to avenge a 31-point loss on New Year's Eve loss in Philadelphia. Villanova was the only team that the Musketeers had not beaten since joining the reassembled Big East in 2013. That all would change at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, as Xavier controlled the game from the start, taking a 40-37 halftime lead. The Musketeers were even stronger in the second half scoring 50 points as they pulled away to a solid 90-83 win. Leading the way for Xavier was Edmond Sumner who had 19 points with six rebounds and nine assists while J.P. Macura matched his 19 points off the bench.

www.sportsecyclopedia.com/1978: In their first season in the Garden State, fans had little to cheer for the New Jersey Nets. However, Kevin Porter dishes out one of the best games in NBA history setting a record with 29 assists as the Nets earn a rare win. The Nets would defeat the Houston Rockets 126-112 at the RAC as John Williamson and Bernard King took advantage of Porter's game with 39 and 35 points. Kevin Porter's record would stand for 12 years when it Scott Skiles had 30 assists for the Orlando Magic.

Image of the Day www.sportsecyclopedia.com/Blazing a Trail When the Portland Trail Blazers lost LaMarcus Aldridge to free agency in the off-season, most expected them to suffer a lost season. However, coming out of the All-Star Break the Blazers has been the hottest team in the NBA, winning their sixth straight game Tuesday by beating the Brooklyn Nets 112-104 at the Moda Center. A big reason behind Portland's surge is Damian Lillard, who has taken an All-Star snub and turned into personal motivation as he became the first player to score 30 or more points for Portland since Geoff Petrie in the franchise's inaugural 1970-71 season. Lillard's team high 34 points was equaled C.J. McCollum. The pair also decided the game with a pair of three pointers to give Portland a 107-101 lead with 1:25 left. With the win the Trail Blazers improved to 30-27 and moved into a sixth place tie with the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Playoff chase.

Image of the Day www.sportsecyclopedia.com/Woe Canada As the NHL hits the final quarter stretch, there is a strong possibility that no teams from Canada will qualify for the playoffs. In the Western Conference the four Canadian teams three of which made it to the postseason last year are all at the bottom of the standings. Meanwhile in the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Maple Leafs as expected are dead last, but the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens have been big let downs. No team has been a bigger disappointment than the Canadiens who won the Atlantic Division last season and were expected again to be one of the top teams in the East. Injuries have played a role but a goal scoring drought has been the biggest obstacle as they suffered a 2-1 loss to the Nashville Predators at Centre Bell dropped their record to 28-27-5, six points out of the second Wild Card and one point behind the Ottawa Senators.

Wow that Dark Side of the Moon Album was even more amazing than we thought www.foxnews.com/science/2016/02/21/apollo-10-astronauts-reported-hearing-odd-music-on-far-side-moon.html?intcmp=hplnwsThe astronauts who flew the dress rehearsal for the first lunar landing reported hearing mysterious “outer space-type music” while flying behind the moon in May 1969. The case of the odd, unexplained whistling noise is uncovered during an upcoming episode of the Science Channel series, “NASA’s Unexplained Files.” The episode focuses on a strange event experienced by the crew members of Apollo 10, a mission which flew to the moon, entered lunar orbit and got within 5,000 feet of the moon’s surface in preparation for Apollo 11’s historic flight two months later. The Apollo 10 astronauts – Tom Stafford, John Young and Eugene Cernan – can be heard on recordings from the flight talking about the strange sound, and whether to tell NASA about it. “It sounds like, you know, outer space-type music,” one of the astronauts says. “Shall we tell [NASA] about it?” an astronaut asks. “I don’t know,” another replies. “We ought to think about it

www.sportsecyclopedia.com/Bumper to Bumper In perhaps the greatest final lap in the history of the Daytona 500, Denny Hamlin surged from fourth place to capture the checkered flag inches ahead of Martin Truex. Hamlin who won his first Daytona 500 made his push on the last lap after sitting fourth surged past Kyle Busch and made a push for the lead battling Truex and Matt Kenseth. During the battle Kenesth who had been out in front got caught in traffic and slipped to finish 14th, while Truex and Hamlin battled side by side for the lead. As the finish line approached it was Denny Hamlin winning by a bumper in the closest finish in the history of the Great American Race since electric scoring at .01 seconds. The win for Denny Hamlin marked the first time that a Toyota captured the Daytona 500 and ended a 23-year drought for Joe Gibbs racing who had a big day with Kyle Busch finishing third, while Kennesth led until the final lap.
