www.sportsecyclopedia.com Kyrie On Facing elimination down 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors, the Cleveland Cavaliers turned to their dynamic duo of LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to keep their hopes of a NBA Championship alive. The Warriors came into the game down a man after Draymond Green was suspended for a flagrant foul in their Game 4 win in Cleveland on Friday. It was clear early that the Warriors sorely missed Green's defensive presence as LeBron James and Kyrie Irving seemingly were scoring at will. The Warriors managed to stay in the game in the first half thanks to a strong performance from Klay Thompson, who led Golden State with 37 points and had six three pointers. However, after the score was tied at the half 61-61, the Warriors went cold, losing Andrew Bogut to an injury. Meanwhile LeBron and Irving continued their attack each scoring a game high 41 points the first time two teammates scored 40 in NBA Finals Game as the Cavaliers won 112-97.

www.sportsecyclopedia.com March of the Penguins When the season began the Pittsburgh Penguins appeared to be a team whose time was up as they struggled for most of the season's first half. Things changed on December 12th when Mike Sullivan replaced Mike Johnston behind the bench. In the second half of the season the Penguins were the league's best team and they carried that momentum into the playoffs. On Sunday the Penguins captured the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in franchise history, beating the San Jose Sharks 3-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at SAP Center. After losing a chance to clinch the home in Game 5, the Penguins not wanting to see a seventh game opened the scoring in San Jose on a power play goal by Brian Dumoulin. The Sharks would tie the game in the second period, but just 79 second later the Penguins again had the league on a goal by Kris Letang. The Penguins defense did the rest allowing two shots in the third period as Patric Hornqvist sealed the win with an empty netter.

www.sportsecyclopedia.comSmelling Victory With Nyquist winning the Kentucky Derby and Exaggerator taking the Preakness Stakes, the buzz of a Triple Crown was absent at the Belmont Stakes Saturday, but that did not take away from the race which had one of the closest finishes in the history in the 148-year history of the race. With Nyquist not running, all eyes were on Exaggerator who entered the race a 6-5 favorite. However, the heavy favorite attempting to become the first horse to finish second in Kentucky and win the next two jewels in 61 years never quite could find a lane to victory and finished a distant 11th. Gettysburg started the race out front and set the pace, before fading down the stretch. As Gettysburg lost his steam Destin and Lani appeared to be out front, before like a bolt Creator came from the outside, Lani would slip as Destin and Creator cross the line in a photo finish with Creator a 14-1 choice ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. was declared the winner by a nose.
