www.sportsecyclopedia.com/Forward March The NHL Trade Deadline came and went Monday with teams deciding whether to make a big leap and pick up someone for the stretch drive or deciding to cut their losses and landed draft picks and prospects for the future. The last week has seen flurry of activity, with a series of deals in the final hours. One of the biggest trades in the last week saw the New York Rangers land longtime Carolina Hurricanes Captain Eric Staal. The eldest of the NHL Staal brothers had been struggling with a Hurricanes team that had not been a factor in the playoff chase. Hoping to get a rejuvenated Eric Staal the Rangers who often lack a reliable scorer made the deal Sunday sending a pair of second-round draft picks, as well as 19-year-old forward Aleksi Saarela to Carolina in return. Leaving behind Jordan Staal and joining Marc Staal, Eric Staal had no impact, but the Rangers did defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets 2-1 on Monday Night.
