www.sportsecyclopedia.com 2001: After 44 years, professional baseball returns to Brooklyn with a minor league team affiliated with the New York Mets called the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Cyclones would play in the New York-Penn League a short season single A team. The Cyclones were named after the famous Coney Island ride which was visible over the leftfield scoreboard at Keyspan Park. The Cyclones would win their first games against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 3-2 in 10 innings.
