www.sportsecyclopedia.com 1966: For nearly a century baseball had been played on the north side of St. Louis, with Sportsman's Park being built in 1902. Serving as home to the Browns and the Cardinals beginning in 1920, the stadium was renamed Busch Stadium in 1953. With a new Busch Stadium to open in four days the Cardinals play the final game at Sportsman's Park, losing to the San Francisco Giants 10-5. Following the game home plate is flown by helicopter to the new stadium.
