1906: At Pittsburgh's Exposition Park, the Pirates become the first team to cover the grass to prevent it from getting wet during a rain storm. A canvas tarp is used to keep the infield dry and prevent a rainout. The plan works as the showers pass. The game however ends up in disappointment for the Pirates, as they are defeated by the Chicago Cubs 5-1.
