The Capitals struck first Wednesday, as Jay Beagle scored 2:58 into the game. The Penguins evened the score on a goal by Trevor Daley. The teams traded goals again in the second and went to overtime tied 2-2 after a scoreless third period. The Penguins would not need much time to send the crowd at CONSOL Energy Center home happy, as Patric Hornqvist beat Braden Holtby 2:34 into overtime.
