www.sportsecyclopedia.com Brooklyn Ice For the first time playoff hockey came to Brooklyn, as the Barclays Center hosted its first postseason game for the New York Islanders. The game took on extra weight after the Islanders split the first two games on the road against the Florida Panthers. A near sellout crowd of nearly 16,000 did not have much to cheer early as the Panthers scored first on a goal by Reilly Smith at 2:25. The Panthers would eventually build a 3-1 lead, before the Islanders began to turn the momentum on a goal by Shane Price in the middle of the second period. The Islanders added a power play goal by Frans Nielsen to tie the game five minutes later. The game remained tied through the end of regulation and into overtime. Finally, Thomas Hickey on a pass from Brock Nelson and Josh Bailey beat Roberto Luongo at 12:31 of the extra session to give the Islanders a 4-3 win and control of the series.
