www.sportsecyclopedia.com Red Wings 25 and Alive, Bruins in Ruins With the NHL regular season coming to a close Sunday, the final two playoff spots were claimed on Saturday as the Detroit Red Wings grabbed the third spot in the Atlantic Division while the Philadelphia Flyers grabbed the second Wild Card spot. The Flyers who were not expected to be a playoff team got into the playoffs on the strength of a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Wells Fargo Center. The Detroit Red Wings meanwhile made the playoffs for the 25th straight season, by locking up third place in the Atlantic Division. The Wings clinching came despite a 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden as the Boston Bruins with destiny in their own hands fell apart at home losing to the Ottawa Senators 6-1. It is the second straight season the Bruins collapsed at the end of the season and will likely lead to wholesale changes.
