www.sportsecyclopedia.com/1956: In the first Masters televised by CBS, Jack Burke Jr. overcomes as an eight stroke deficit after three rounds and wins the Green Jacket thanks to a final round 71. Jack Burke Jr. who had not won on the tour in three years finished with a 289 one over par score. Entering the final round amateur Ken Venturi appeared to be heading for a wire-to-wire win but faltered on the final day, shooting an 80 to finish one stroke behind Burke.
