www.sportsecyclopedia.com 1915: Jess Willard wins the heavyweight championship by knocking out Jack Johnson in the 26th round of a scheduled 45 round fight at the Oriental Park Racetrack in Havana, Cuba. Johnson the first African American to hold the title in boxing's top weight class had held the title since 1908. At a shade of 6'6" Willard would become the tallest heavyweight champion, he would hold the title for four years, never giving Jack Johnson a rematch.
