www.sportsecyclopedia.com When Last We Met The long winter is over as baseball season began with three games on Sunday. Highlighting the first day action was a historic first as the two World Series teams faced off with the champion Kansas City Royals hosting the New York Mets. A full house was on hand as the Royals raised their second championship flag. Once the game began it looked like a continuation of the Fall Classic as the Royals continued to take advantage of Mets miscues in the field, scoring a first inning run after Yoenis Cespedes dropped an easy fly ball. The Royals would add three more runs off Matt Harvey to build a 4-0 lead. Meanwhile Edinson Volquez, who like Harvey started the Game 5, the World Series finale allowed just two hits in six innings. The Mets bats came alive in the eighth as they scratched out three runs, but it was not enough as Wade Davis stranded two runners on striking out David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes to preserve the 4-3 win.
