www.sportsecyclopedia.com March of the Penguins As the NHL enters the final week of the regular season, no team is hotter than the Pittsburgh Penguins. Earlier in the season the Penguins were struggling all over the place as their goal scoring stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were off to the worst starts of their career. Things began to turn on December 12th when Coach Mike Johnston was fired with the Penguins sitting at 15-10-3. Since then under Coach Mike Sullivan the Penguins have improved every month. With a 5-2 win over the Nashville Predators at Consol Energy Center the Penguins completed a 12-4-0 record during March, winning nine of their last ten games to all but secure a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Leading the way on Thursday was Phil Kessel who netted two goals as the Penguins moved into second place in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 44-25-8.
