www.sportsecyclopedia.com Spoiler Alert When the season started, the Montreal Canadiens looked like a certified Stanley Cup contender as they won their first nine games. However, injuries including the loss of Goalie Carey Price sent the Canadiens reeling and they never recovered, leading to their mathematical elimination from the playoffs last week. As the season enters the final two weeks the Canadiens are left in the role of spoiler. A role they played to perfection on Tuesday Night defeating the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 at Bell Centre. Leading the way for Montreal was Max Pacioretty, who netted two goals including the game winning at 11:18 in the third period. The Red Wings who have not missed the playoffs since 1990 are in a tight race for the last spots in the Eastern Conference. The Wings sit at 38-28-11 with 87 points tied with the Philadelphia Flyers for the last spot, but the Flyers hold a big edge with two games in hand.
