www.sportsecyclopedia.com March of the Penguins When the season began the Pittsburgh Penguins appeared to be a team whose time was up as they struggled for most of the season's first half. Things changed on December 12th when Mike Sullivan replaced Mike Johnston behind the bench. In the second half of the season the Penguins were the league's best team and they carried that momentum into the playoffs. On Sunday the Penguins captured the Stanley Cup for the fourth time in franchise history, beating the San Jose Sharks 3-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at SAP Center. After losing a chance to clinch the home in Game 5, the Penguins not wanting to see a seventh game opened the scoring in San Jose on a power play goal by Brian Dumoulin. The Sharks would tie the game in the second period, but just 79 second later the Penguins again had the league on a goal by Kris Letang. The Penguins defense did the rest allowing two shots in the third period as Patric Hornqvist sealed the win with an empty netter.
